Description

A pair of attached houses located on Cotham Road, Bristol, dating from around 1840. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with a hidden roof. They follow a double-depth plan and are designed in an Italianate style. The two-storey buildings, with a basement and attic, feature a six-window front, although a central one-window range is set back, creating entrance blocks. The ground floor exhibits banded rustication, while the corners and centre of the first floor have pilasters. A cornice and parapet runs along the top, with an attic storey having a coped parapet. Projecting porches each contain a two-panel door. The windows have architraves; console cornices feature on the ground floor windows, which have 6/6-pane sashes. The attic windows are 3/3-pane sashes, and those in the outer blocks are 4/4-pane sashes. The interior of No. 26 includes an entrance hall, a rear lateral dogleg staircase with turned balusters, cornices, and six-panel doors. Nos. 26-36 Cotham Road share a similar plan and elevation, although there are slight variations between them.
