Description

This is a house dating to around 1840. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with rendered sides, and has a concrete tiled hipped roof. The design is in the Italianate style, arranged as a double-depth plan.

The house has two main floors, a basement, and an attic. The front has a three-window arrangement, with a slightly projecting central section flanked by a balustraded porch on the left and a conservatory on the right. The ground floor has a symmetrical façade with shallow, projecting wings and a central recess. A moulded plinth runs along the base, and the ground floor is treated with banded rustication extending up to an entablature. Above this are paired first-floor pilasters leading to a bracketed cornice. The attic storey has moulded coping.

The bays of the front wings contain tripartite windows with guilloche jambs and mullions dividing the 6/6-pane sashes, alongside flanking 2/2-pane sashes. First-floor windows are similarly treated, with console cornices. The central windows have shouldered architraves framing 6/6-pane sashes, with attic windows set into the cornice. The basement, visible in a front well, has cambered heads above 6/6-pane sashes. The rear elevation mirrors the front but with reduced decoration.

The entrance is located on the left return side and features a semicircular arched doorway with a large fanlight and two panelled doors. The interior has not been inspected. The house shares a similar design with numbers 19-33 Hartfield Avenue, but features variations in the detailing due to a smaller plot size.
