Description

A pair of attached houses dating to around 1840. They are built of limestone ashlar, with a Pennant rubble basement and rendered sides, the roof being obscured. The houses are constructed on a double-depth plan and are in an Italianate style. They are two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and have a four-window front. The symmetrical facade features projecting wings with ground-floor bays and a wide central recess, with entrances positioned at the ends. A moulded plinth is present, along with banded rustication on the ground floor to an entablature that runs around the bays, featuring small floral details. Paired first-floor pilasters rise to a bracketed cornice, and the attic storey has a moulded coping. The porches flanking the entrances have pilasters, an entablature, and semicircular arches leading to recessed half-glazed doors, with rectangular overlights and stained glass side-lights. The ground-floor bays contain tripartite windows with thin mullions to 6/6-pane and flanking 2/2-pane sashes, with a parapet in front of the tripartite first-floor windows, which have architraves and console cornices. The middle windows have margin bars to ground-floor casements, while the first-floor windows have shouldered architraves to 6/6-pane sashes. Attic windows break through the cornice, incorporating small pilasters and 3/3-pane sashes. The basement windows have cambered heads and 6/6-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected. Numbers 19-33 share a common plan and elevations, though with variations in the decorative details.
