Description

The pair of attached houses at 34 and 36 Cotham Road date from around 1840. They are constructed from limestone ashlar with a roof that is not visible. The houses are arranged with a double-depth plan and are built in an Italianate style. They are three storeys high with a basement, and feature a four-window facade. The design is symmetrical, with the central section set forward and raised slightly. The ground floor has banded rustication, while the corners and centre of the upper floors have pilasters. The building is topped by a cornice and parapet. Porches are located in the returns of the houses, featuring pilasters leading to an entablature, plus two semicircular arches. The inner arch contains a six-panel door, while the outer arch is open to the rear garden. The windows are mostly 6/6-pane sashes in shallow recesses on the centre floor, with smaller windows on the second floor; the outer blocks have 4/4-pane sashes. The interior of the houses has not been inspected, although they share a similar plan with the properties at numbers 26-32.
