Description
46 and 48 Cotham Road are a pair of attached houses built around 1840. They are designed in the Italianate style, featuring stucco with limestone dressings, a central brick chimney, and a hipped roof covered with pantiles. The houses are three storeys tall, with a basement and attic, and have a symmetrical layout with four windows across the front.
The corners and the center of the central block are accentuated by broad pilasters, topped with a frieze and cornice, and there is an attic with a coped parapet. The outer blocks are two storeys high, each with one window, a cornice, and a stele-shaped parapet. The doorways at the ends have scrolled consoles supporting canopies, and the doors feature two oval panels. There are semicircular-arched stair lights with margin panes towards the rear.
The central block has tripartite windows on the ground floor, adorned with cornices and wreathed pediment lintels, and features 6/6-pane sash windows flanked by 4/4-pane sashes. The remaining windows have architraves, with 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor and ground floor sides, 3/3-pane sashes in the attic, and 2/4-pane sashes in the outer blocks. The interior has not been inspected.
