Description
A pair of attached houses dating to around 1840, located on Cotham Road in Bristol. The houses are constructed of stucco with limestone detailing, and feature a central brick stack and a pantile hipped roof. They are built on a double-depth plan and represent the Italianate style.
The houses are three storeys high, with a basement and attic, and have a four-window frontage. They exhibit a symmetrical design with broad pilasters at the corners and on the central block, extending to a frieze and cornice. The central block has an attic with a coped parapet, while the two outer blocks are two storeys high, with a cornice and stele-shaped parapets. Doorways on the returns have scrolled consoles supporting canopies, with doors featuring two oval panels and semicircular-arched stair lights with margin panes to the rear. The central block has tripartite ground-floor windows with cornices and wreathed, pedimented lintels, incorporating 6/6-pane sashes flanked by 4/4-pane sashes. Other windows have architraves, with 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor and ground floor to the sides, 3/3-pane sashes in the attic, and 2/4-pane sashes in the outer blocks.
The interior includes an entrance hall, a dogleg winder staircase against the sidewall with stick balusters and a curtail, panelled shutters, six-panel doors, cornices, and a range located in the basement.
