Description

This is a mid-19th century house, now divided into two attached houses at 22 and 22A Cotham Road, Bristol. Constructed of limestone ashlar, the building has lateral chimney stacks and a double-pile roof. It is designed in an Italianate style. The house is two storeys high, with a basement and an attic, and has a three-window front. The symmetrical facade features a banded ground floor that leads to a plat band, paired first-floor pilasters rising to a frieze, a cornice, and a coped attic storey. To the right is a two-storey entrance block. The shallow bay windows on the ground floor have tripartite windows with dentil cornices and balustrades; the first-floor windows have architraves and 6/6-pane sash windows; and the attic windows are 3/6-pane sashes. A wide doorway has pilasters, an entablature, and a moulded architrave leading to a pair of two-panel doors. There is a rendered section to the first floor with a single window. The interior has not been inspected. The group value of this building lies in its contribution to the streetscape and its representation of mid-19th century domestic architecture.
