Description

A pair of attached houses on Cotham Road, Bristol, dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with a roof that is not visible. They have a double-depth plan and are built in a Neoclassical style.

The houses are two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and have a four-window front. The central part of the front steps forward, featuring large carved brackets flanking the attic, giant Tuscan pilasters at the corners and centre, an entablature, cornice, and parapet. A plat band runs across the ground floor, and recessed side entrance porches have pilasters, an entablature, a parapet, and a panel above the six-panel doors. The central ground-floor windows are tripartite, with brackets under their cornices, while the first-floor windows have architraves. The windows are largely sash windows with 6/6 panes, 2/2 panes, and 3/3-pane attic sashes in recessed surrounds.

Inside, the porch features a semicircular-arched stained-glass window to the rear. The entrance hall contains a dogleg staircase with turned balusters and a curtail, modillion cornices, six-panel doors, and panelled shutters.
