Description

Numbers 16 and 17 Portland Street, in the Kingsdown area of Bristol, are a pair of attached houses dating to around 1830. They are built with rendered walls and limestone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and pantile hipped roofs. The houses are arranged over three storeys and a basement, with a double-depth plan.

Architecturally, they are of the late Georgian style. Each house has a two-window front. They have a coped parapet above. The right-hand doorways feature brackets supporting an entablature and pediment, a three-pane fanlight, and a six-panel door. Number 17 has six-over-six-pane horned sash windows, while Number 16 has plate-glass sashes with fluted keys and plain architraves. The interior has not been inspected.

Attached to the front are railings and gates, leading down steps to the basement level. These are considered subsidiary features.
