Description

A pair of attached houses, dating from the early 19th century. The houses are rendered with brick and limestone dressings, a rendered party wall stack, and a pantile mansard roof. They have a double-depth plan and are built in a late Georgian style.

The houses are four storeys high, with a three-window front. They feature pilaster strips to a moulded coping, a rendered party wall pilaster with two windows to the left and one to the right, and a two-storey canted bay with timber pilasters and a dentil cornice. The windows are sashes, with margin bars; the left-hand windows feature 6/6 panes, and the right-hand windows have 8/8 panes. One dormer has a sloping roof.

The right return of Ebenezer House features a blocked semicircular-arched ashlar doorway at first-floor level, with a fanlight and an inserted window. The left return of Kingsley House has a two-storey porch with a semicircular-arched window with stained glass to the margin bars, and a six-panel door to the left end. A 20th-century shop partially enters the corner of the building, with a shallow vaulted basement and four-panel doors. The interior has not been inspected.

Attached to the right is a brick wall with cast-iron fleur-de-lys headed railings. A rubble and brick wall is attached to the left. The group value of these features lies in their cohesive design and contribution to the character of the Kingsdown area.
