Description

This is a house, built in 1837 and altered in the early 20th century. It is constructed with a render over rubble, with limestone dressings, rendered stacks, and a slate hipped roof. The design is Italianate, with a double-depth plan. The house has two storeys, a basement and an attic, and originally had a three-window front, though the right-hand section projects slightly. The right projection features rendered pilasters, a band and frieze, and deep eaves supported by paired brackets. A 19th-century timber porch covers the front door, sheltering a six-panel door and a full-width tented wrought-iron verandah. To the right of the porch is a wide, early 20th-century bow window made of rusticated ashlar, with a raised parapet and three plate-glass sash windows. A large stained-glass window illuminates the rear staircase. Inside, there is a large central hall with a dogleg staircase featuring turned balusters and a large octagonal newel. A front left room includes a reeded dado and a large marble fireplace with angled brackets and a curved top. The interior also has early 20th-century six-panel doors with broken segmental pediments and panelled shutters.
