Description

No. 26 Somerset Street is an attached house dating from the late 18th century, located in Kingsdown, Bristol. The building features a rendered exterior with limestone dressings and has a double-depth plan in a late Georgian style. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. The front of the house is flush with the road, although the right side has a doorway that may have been brought forward at a later date. The moulded parapet coping adds to its architectural detail.

The doorway, similar to those at Nos. 56-86 Kingsdown Parade, includes imposts and consoles supporting a pediment, along with a moulded semicircular arch, a plate-fanlight, and a six-panel door. To the right of the doorway is a shallow mid-19th century timber canted bay that features pilasters, a cornice, and a parapet. The upper windows have five stepped voussoirs, plate-glass sashes, and a six-over-six pane sash window to the left on the second floor. The right-hand window range above the door has cambered heads and is set apart from the others. The rear elevation is finished in ashlar and includes a full-height canted bay. The interior has not been inspected.
