Description

No. 20 Prospect Place is a detached house located within the wider Prospect Place development. The core of the house dates to around 1740, as evidenced by a mortgage document, with a significant refronting occurring in 1811. Later additions were made in the 20th century. The house is constructed from limestone ashlar, with a rubble stone plinth. It has a double-pitched roof covered with slate to the front and double Roman tiles to the rear, featuring moulded stacks to the gable ends. The plan is based on three units, with a flat-roofed rear range added in the 20th century.

The two-storey and basement house presents a symmetrical three-window facade. The windows are six/six-pane sashes, with balconettes to those on the first floor and splayed jambs to the ground floor. The front door is six-panelled, with glazing at the top. An attached, single-storey outhouse is located to the left return, featuring a pent roof covered with pantiles and a stone ogee arch to the lintel. The interior was not inspected, but is known to contain early 18th-century features.
