Description

No. 10 South Lodge is a detached house set back above Camden Road, dating from 1806, with later enlargement in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a double-pitched slate roof with moulded stacks at the gable ends. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, it was expanded to double depth during the mid-19th century.

The exterior consists of two storeys and a basement at the front, and three storeys with a basement at the rear. The front facade is symmetrical with a three-window range, low coped parapets, and cornices that slightly return to the front. It has a narrow lintel frieze that stops at the rear. The windows are six-over-six pane sash windows, with balconettes on the first floor and almost full-height windows on the ground floor. The ground floor features double three-panel doors that are glazed at the top, accompanied by a wide two-pane overlight.

At the rear, the mid-19th century rough ashlar includes two windows on the second floor, with the left window having a timber lintel over a ten-over-ten pane sash, and a six-over-six pane sash to the right. The first floor has three six-over-six pane sashes, and the ground floor has eight-over-eight pane sashes flanking a single-storey flat-roofed porch, likely from the 20th century. Each floor has a small 20th-century window near the centre. To the left return, there is a late 19th-century lean-to conservatory. The front garden covers vaults that front the basement, and there is a passage through the vaults with a door close to the street. The interior has not been inspected.
