Description
Belgrave Lodge consists of a pair of early 19th-century houses located at a right angle to Camden Road, built on a sloping site. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar and rubblestone, with hipped slate roofs. A double stack of chimneys is present on the party wall and at the rear of No.1.
No.1 presents a symmetrical five-window facade. It has six/six pane sash windows to the second floor, paired to the outer ranges. The left side of the first floor features paired six/nine pane sashes, while a semicircular arched central window uses radial glazing bars, and a blind Venetian window is located to the right. The central doorway has a keystone to a semicircular arched surround and fanlight, with a four-panel door featuring two vertical panels and two glazed square panels at the top. A ground floor platband runs across the front, with paired six/six pane sashes to the left and a pair of blind windows to the right. Due to the sloping site, a lower ground floor is created on the right return side of Camden Road, incorporating a full-height canted bay with sash windows echoing those at the front, and three/six pane sashes to the painted lower ground floor. The rear elevation features an ashlar second floor, while the ground and first floors are of rubblestone, suggesting a later enlargement of an earlier house.
No.2 has a three-window front with plate glass sash windows to the upper floors, paired to the right, and a first floor sill band. The ground floor right has paired six/six pane sashes. A single-storey lean-to with a 20th-century door and window is located to the left. The rear features a timber bressummer, a blocked door to the ground floor, six/six pane sash windows to the right, and other blocked windows.
The interiors have not been inspected.
