Description
Gay's Cottage is a mid-18th century house located on the south side of Camden Road, attached on the left to Belgrave Cottage. The site slopes down to the right at the corner of Camden Road and Gays Hill. The building is constructed of painted limestone ashlar and features a single-pitched slate roof with rendered stacks at the center ridge and rear gable end.
The house has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a lower ground floor, presenting a single window range. A coped parapet rises over the gable ends at both the front and rear, and a cornice along with a ground floor platband spans three sides. The windows are six-over-six pane sash windows with horns. On the first floor, there is one window to the left above a six-panel door that is glazed at the top, featuring raised and fielded panels in a painted stone doorcase with engaged Tuscan columns. To the right, there is another window. The right return of the building has a two-window range with delicate balconettes on both the first and ground floors, and to the right, there is a parapeted canted bay on the ground and lower ground floors. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to. The interior has not been inspected.
