Description

Westfield Lodge is a detached house dating from circa 1828, with alterations made in 1882 and 20th-century additions. It is constructed of painted limestone ashlar with a double-pitched slate roof, featuring moulded stacks to the gable ends. The house has a double-depth plan with a set-back one-window left wing. The symmetrical three-window front has two storeys. A returned low coped parapet, a slightly returned cornice, and a ground floor platband are present. The first-floor windows are plate glass sashes with trellised balconettes and sunblind boxes. The ground floor has French windows, and the elaborate six-panel door with a circular central panel and overlight is spanned by a lean-to conservatory with a glazed roof. An 1882 stone porch, high and constructed with pilasters supporting an entablature and coped cornice, flanks the entrance. This porch features statues and a semi-elliptical arch over C20 glazed double doors, complete with an ornamented keystone and spandrels, and a pitched roof extending back to the facade. The interior was not inspected. Westfield Lodge exemplifies a two-phase suburban house style, similar to its neighbors, and displays design influences from John Pinch.
