Boundary walls and gate piers to No.54 The Priory

GV II

Boundary wall with gatepiers. Early C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar and dressed stone. EXTERIOR: To left of frontage, set back, pair of square ashlar piers with double sunk panels to four centred heads on front and return, with block copings and cross-roll flat gabled cappings. To left very short section of wall to flat coping, to right broad quadrant of wall swept down to pavement edge, returned down slope of hill across whole width of site, wall approx 2.5m high, but stepped to approx 2.1m at centre. Gateway serves both Nos 54 and 56 (No.56 not included). Walls important townscape element to hill.
