Description

This is a pair of early 19th-century houses, numbers 63 and 65 Augusta Villa. They are constructed of limestone ashlar with slate roofs. The houses have a wide frontage and are single-depth, with gabled mansard roofs. The steep slope of the site gives the appearance of an additional storey at the rear.

Each house is symmetrical with three windows per floor. The windows are twelve-pane sashes, with over square horizontal panes above deeper twelve-pane sashes, all set in sunk surrounds. Number 63 has a centred, wide panelled door with a tent hood supported by latticework.

Architectural details include a plinth, channelled ground floor under a broad band, end and central pilasters, an upper sill band, a double frieze, a cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet. There are coped parapets and a party wall, along with ashlar end and central stacks. The rear elevation has a steep mansard roof. Number 63 has two widely spaced raking dormers and a projecting bay containing a tripartite sash with twelve-pane sashes on the lower floors. Number 65 has two steep gabled dormers over twelve-pane sashes. The interiors have not been inspected.
