LYNCOMBE HILL (West side) Gate piers, gate and walls to Abbey Lodge

GV II

Gate piers with gate, boundary walls. Early C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar and iron. EXTERIOR: Opposite centre of main range(qv) tall pair of plain octagonal piers with low weathered cappings on bed-mould, linked by low iron overthrow, and containing simple iron gate, all set on four broad steps.. To each side, in shallow concave quadrant, boundary walls in coursed squared stone, coped to right and rough weathered to left. To right wall swept up to return wall bounding site, and to left continues across full width of site in series of small steps. Walls form part of continuous run on this side of street, forming important visual adjunct to buildings.
