Description
The gate piers, walls, railings, gates, and overthrow to Nos 45 and 45A on Lyncombe Hill date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of limestone ashlar and wrought iron. The exterior features square panelled piers with incised rounded heads at each end of the frontage, flanked by an ashlar wall that tapers from approximately 1.5 meters on the left to 0.5 meters on the right due to the slope of the hill. The wall is topped with spearhead railings. In the center, there is a wide break containing an iron gate, which has spearhead main bars, dog bars, and diamond panels, along with a concave top and additional protective bars above. The gate is hung on lattice standards with rounded heads. Above the gate is an arched overthrow that sweeps forward and features an open lamp-holder.
