Description
Gates, gate piers, railings, and wall at Dowdeswell Lodge date from the mid to late 19th century. The structure features ashlar piers, cast iron gates, and railings, along with a coursed squared and dressed limestone wall. The rectangular piers have raised rectangular panels, dentil decoration, and flat cappings, with pilasters on either side that have moulded cappings adorned with acanthus leaf decoration. There is a single gate to the left of a double gate. The railings curve away to the right and left of the entrance, with subsidiary piers similar to those flanking the main gates at intervals. The railing connects to a wall approximately 2 meters high, which extends a short distance on either side of the entrance, running parallel to the road, with a total width of about 35 meters to the road.
