Description

SO 91 NE DOWDESWELL - Gates, gate piers, railings and wal 4/16 Dowdeswell Lodge GV II

Gates, gate piers, railings and wall. Mid-late C19. Ashlar piers, cast iron gates and railings, coursed squared and dressed limestone wall. Rectangular piers with raised rectangular panels, dentil decoration and flat cappings, pilasters either side with moulded cappings with acanthus leaf decoration. Single gate left of double gate. Railings curve away right and left of entrance with subsidiary piers similar to those flanking main gates at intervals. Railing joins wall c.2m in height which runs for short distance either side of entrance parallel with road; total width to road c35m.
