Description

Home Farm is a detached house dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with additions from the mid 17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with concrete tile and stone slate roofing, and stone stacks. The main body of the house is rectangular, and is joined by a mid-17th century wing that projects slightly forward at the left-hand end. The right-hand section of the building is two storeys high, featuring two-light stone-mullioned windows with stilted heads, carved spandrels, and also windows of 2, 3, and 4 lights with hollow-chamfered stone mullions and stopped hoods. A 20th-century door, with strap hinges, is set within a deep, flat-chamfered, basket-headed surround with imposts. A double-glazed door is located through a projecting chimney stack in the right gable end. The mid-17th century wing projects forward on the left, and is two-and-a-half storeys high with Cotswold dormers facing north and west. This section features two and three-light stone-mullioned casements with stepped mouldings to the mullions and stopped hoods. Three-light windows with transoms have been inserted into the gable at the rear. The interior includes a 'Tudor'-arched fireplace, 14 metres wide, with a moulded surround within the ground floor hall of the late 16th-early 17th century block. Square-panelled timber-framed partitions are present throughout both parts of the house, along with two 'Tudor'-arched fireplaces in the mid-17th century section.
