Description
The gates and gate piers forming the north entrance to Dowdeswell Court date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from ashlar and feature wrought and cast iron gates and railings. The square piers have moulded cappings and ball finials, which have been restored, along with similar subsidiary piers that are linked by railings on either side. The double gates are adorned with spear-headed uprights and urn finials, and there is foliate decoration on the panels at the bottom. To the right of the piers, there is a single gate with decorative wrought panels on either side, which is similar in detail to the railings found in churchyards.
