Description

Barford Lodge is a detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone with a tiled roof, featuring a stone stack with moulded capping on the right and a brick stack on the left. The building has a U-plan layout, with a passage between the fireplaces of a split-stack. It is two stories high and has three windows.

On the ground floor, there is a square 19th-century stone porch to the right of the center, which contains a six-panelled door. To the left of the porch are two three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casements, and to the right, there is one three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement, all with hoodmoulds. The first floor features three three-light mullioned casements. The building has coped verges.

The left side of the house has a three-light casement and a 20th-century planked door, along with a single hollow-chamfered casement on the first floor. The right side has three-light mullioned casements on both the ground and first floors, and a two-light mullioned casement in the attic, all with hoodmoulds.

At the rear, there are two gabled wings. The right wing contains a 20th-century casement and three-light mullioned casements, while the left wing has 20th-century casements inserted into former mullioned windows, also with hoodmoulds and a coped verge. The central rear courtyard features a tiled verandah, a blocked doorway, and a three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement.

Inside, the house has deep chamfered beams with stepped stops, open fireplaces, and wainscot panelling in the rear passage.
