Description

The Old House is a detached house that dates from the late 17th century to the mid-18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from roughly coursed, squared, and dressed limestone, topped with a concrete tile roof and features 20th-century stone stacks. The main structure is rectangular, with a slightly lower extension at the right gable end and a 20th-century lean-to extension also at the right gable end. There is a small extension at the rear, likely from the 20th century but built using reused stone, and a 20th-century lean-to and flat-roofed extension at the left gable end, which are not of special interest.

The main body of the house has two storeys and an attic, with a 20th-century raking roof dormer. The facade has two windows on each floor, featuring 2 and 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. To the right of the right-hand window is a single light with a stone surround. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed 19th-century door set within a flat-chamfered Tudor-arched surround.

There is a single bay extension to the right of the main structure, likely built around the same time as the original, which is 1.5 storeys tall and features a 2-light stone-mullioned Cotswold dormer with a hood on the upper floor, and a similar 2-light casement with a hood on the ground floor. Most of the casements have horizontal glazing bars, and the left-hand light of the dormer has leaded panes. The rear wall of the main body and the extension includes reused Tudor-arched stone-mullioned casements with carved spandrels. The roof is steeply pitched with gable end stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
