Description
The gate piers and garden wall surrounding The Priory date from the 19th century and incorporate sections of medieval wall. The gate piers are made of limestone ashlar and stand approximately 4 metres tall, featuring moulded bases and cornices topped with pineapple finials. The garden wall extends about 100 metres to the south, 75 metres to the west, and 20 metres to the north. Both the north and south sections of the wall include medieval stone; the stone in the south section is likely reused, while the stone in the north section may be part of the original medieval wall from the Benedictine nunnery of Nun Monkton. The wall is approximately 3 metres high and has 20th-century concrete coping.
