Description
A semi-detached villa, built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed from limestone ashlar with a slate roof. They have a compact design with slightly recessed wings on each side. The main facade has a symmetrical arrangement of one window on either side and three windows in the centre. The windows are predominantly sash windows, with twelve panes at the second floor level, and larger sashes with plain pilasters, rosette imposts, and a frieze in a sunk arched panel repeated in the blind centre panel. Number 50 has cast iron flower guards at each level. The lower ground floor has small two-light casements. The wings each feature a small twelve-pane sash window above a panelled and part-glazed door with a swagged fanlight, set within pilasters with an impost and a sunk band, and approached by a short flight of steps. A central ashlar stack is visible. The side elevations are plain, and the rear, which is accessed by a service road, has a mix of nine, twelve, and twelve-pane sashes. An ashlar extension is present at number 50, while number 52 has a timber-clad section. A cavetto cornice with blocking pieces tops the houses, and a parapet is present. The interiors have not been inspected. These are handsome villas situated high above the main road, facing east, and designed to contrast with numbers 48 and 50 to the right.
