Description
No. 48 Wells Road is a house dating from around 1820, situated at the upper end of a row. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar, with the ground floor rendered, and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high with an attic and a lower ground floor, displaying a two-window front. The windows are plain sash windows with balconettes above the top-floor windows. Dormers are incorporated into the steep mansard roof slope. A central 19th-century flush door is set within reveals and has recessed reeded lining. The exterior also features a cavetto cornice with a blocking course and parapet, along with coped parapets and deep ashlar stacks. The left-hand return is plain, while the rear elevation has three dormers above two twelve-pane windows on each level, with balconettes to the top floor, and a lean-to ground floor addition. The interior has not been inspected. No. 48 is the end house in a long, stepped row of properties on Wells Road.
