Description

The Railway Brewery is a former public house that has been converted into flats as of 2002. The building dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century and features a double-width front, which is a conversion of two earlier houses from the early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a concrete tile roof.

The exterior is three storeys high, with one or two lower ground floors, and has a broad frontage in a stepped row. It includes three windows with plain casements set in narrow chamfered stone mullions. The top floor features three three-light windows, while the first floor has triple lights on either side of a flat canted oriel supported by a stone bracket, all within a recessed two-storey panel that has a very flat four-centred head. Each window on this floor has a stopped drip, with the central window being higher. The ground floor consists of four-light casements with drips on either side of a plank door that has a flat four-centre head and paired small casements in the central panel. The building is topped with a moulded cornice and a blocking course that is raised over the middle bay, along with ashlar stacks at each end. The rear of the building is not accessible. The interior has not been inspected but the building is included for its group value.
