Description

Bagatelle House is a detached house located on Lyncombe Vale, dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar with slate roofs. The building features a complex layout, originally designed as a symmetrical villa that faces west, away from the road, and includes a balustraded terrace. A later addition with a low-pitched hipped roof has been added to the roadside, linked on the left by a canted lower range, also with a hipped roof.

The main villa stands two storeys high and has three wide-spaced plain sash windows with valances. It features a square bay window with a triple light and a door with a fanlight set in a pedimented case, along with a single-storey canted bay also topped with a pediment. Ashlar stacks are present at each gable, and the building has deep eaves overhangs. The road side is finished in fine ashlar, with the lowest six courses having a pecked surface. The hipped addition includes a small six-pane sash window and a larger four-pane sash above another small six-pane window, along with a large four-panel door and transom light, and a threshold cast iron ventilation grille below. To the right of the door is a footscraper. The wall extends to the right to enclose a yard, sweeping up at the end and returning at an acute angle to the villa. The lower angled range to the left features a plain sash window. The interior has not been inspected.
