Description
The gateway opposite Welton Lodge is an early 18th-century doorway set in a boundary wall. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a plain plank door within a square opening. The doorway is accented by bold alternating rusticated jambs and triple stepped keystones, all made from coursed walling that forms part of the enclosure for the grounds of Widcombe Manor. This doorway appears to provide access to the springhead that feeds the nearby mill-stream and ponds, which are also located within the grounds of Widcombe Manor.
