Description

The Abbey Cemetery Lambe Tomb is a Grade II listed neoclassical memorial dedicated to John Lambe, who died in 1865. It is made of white marble and features a half-column on a square base, topped with cable moulding and a sculpted rising Phoenix. This design is fitting, as Lambe served as Paymaster on board HMS Phoenix, a name that resonates with themes of resurrection, which is appropriate for a Christian monument. The tomb also commemorates Lambe's son, Hugh, who died in 1849 in Calcutta. The tomb is located in section VI.H.40.42 of the cemetery.
