Description

The Abbey Cemetery Hamper Tomb is a Grade II listed tomb dedicated to Charles Hamper, who died in 1866. This Gothic Revival canopy tomb is constructed from pennant stone and features a steeply pitched canopy adorned with trefoil roll-moulding along the ridges and an Iona cross at the top. The roof is designed with a fish-scale pattern, and there is blind arcading on the ends. The tomb also has a chamfered plinth. Charles Hamper was formerly of The Grove in Bathampton, and this monument is noted for its richly detailed High Gothic style. It is situated at the half-border of section V in the cemetery.
