Description
The Hinds Tomb, located in Abbey Cemetery, is a Grade II listed structure dedicated to Samuel Maxwell Hinds, who died in 1847. This tomb is designed in the Greek Revival style and resembles the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. It was signed by Reeves of Bath and is made of marble. The tomb features fluted columns adorned with lotus and acanthus leaf capitals that support a modillion cornice. Inside, there is a draped urn on a moulded pedestal. Samuel Maxwell Hinds was a former Speaker of the House of Assembly in Barbados and resided at 7 Raby Place. The Hinds Tomb is noted as one of the most handsome in the cemetery and is situated in section III.G.1.3.
