Description

69, 69A, and 69B Castle Street is an 18th-century building that has been refronted with a modern brick skin. It is two storeys high with an attic and features a tile mansard roof with one dormer. The first floor has two 3-light windows, while the ground floor includes a shop front with two windows and a central door framed by Corinthian pilasters and a moulded entablature. Original chamfered stone quoins are visible on the left-hand return angle. To the right, there is a two-storey extension with a brick upper part and stone coping, topped with an old tile roof. The ground floor of this extension has a modern panelled wood treatment in the style of the 18th century, featuring two 6-panel doors in the outer corners with architraves and panels above, flanking a central 3-light window, all beneath a dentilled wood cornice.

The rear wing of 69A and 69B dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It has a tiled roof with a hip at the east end and is two storeys tall. The brickwork was once painted and features four 3-pane wide windows in reveals, with irregular fenestration below. There are modern half-glazed doors at either end and coupled modern flush panelled doors in the centre.

All the listed buildings on the east side of Castle Street form a group.
