Description
No. 71 Castle Street is an 18th-century building, constructed post-1772 by George West the Elder. This two-storey structure features a design similar to other buildings in the area. On the first floor, there are two windows, while the ground floor has a large window that is four panes wide to the right and a six-panel door set within a doorcase. The doorcase is adorned with panelled pilasters, scroll brackets, a broken dentilled entablature, and an open pediment. The cap mouldings extend across the doorhead and around the architrave of the round arch. Above the door, there is an arched fanlight with a carved and wreathed radiating pattern, and access is provided by three moulded stone steps. To the right, there is a stable entry featuring one window above, a moulded eaves cornice, and double wooden boarded doors below. All the listed buildings on the east side of Castle Street are part of a group.
