Description
72 Castle Street is a building with a late 18th-century front that has been altered and features an earlier timber-framed core. The ground floor dates from the 19th century. It is three stories tall, with the upper part finished in pebble dash and a slate roof. The building has a flat eaves cornice supported by pairs of brackets and two large windows on the upper part, each four panes wide. The ground floor has a symmetrical shop front, consisting of a central window flanked by half-glazed doors, all framed with panelled pilasters and an entablature that includes a dentilled cornice. The entire front requires consideration regarding its colour and wall treatment. The building has group value with other listed buildings on the east side of Castle Street.
