Description

Eggar, Estate Agent is a 18th-century building located on Castle Street. It is a two-storey structure made of brick, resting on a chamfered plinth. The walls rise to a parapet with brick coping, featuring vitreous brick panels above the windows. The first floor has five windows, while the ground floor has two windows on the right side, all adorned with red rubbed arches. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door topped with a radiating and wreathed arched fanlight. This door is framed by fluted and half-reeded Doric pilasters, and is topped by a broken entablature that includes a triglyph frieze and a modillioned cornice. The soffit displays a ribbon pattern enrichment and a modillioned open pediment. The cap mould of the pilasters extends around the reveals and over the doorhead. To the left of the door, there is an early 19th-century window that is four panes wide, set within a surround of panelled pilasters and an entablature. Additionally, there is a 19th-century half-glazed door in the left corner, which features a plain arched fanlight for office entry. All the listed buildings on the east side of Castle Street form a cohesive group.
