Description
62 Castle Street is a tall 18th-century, two-storey building constructed of brick on a projecting plinth. The walls rise to a parapet that is panelled over the windows and features stone coping. The roof is covered with old tiles.
On the first floor, there are five windows, while the ground floor has four tall windows and a central six-panel door. This door is set in an arched opening with a panelled reveal and a fanlight that has a heavy barred carved and scroll pattern. The doorcase is adorned with fluted and half-reeded Doric pilasters, a broken entablature with a triglyph frieze, a dentil cornice, and a dentil open pediment with an enriched soffit. The cap moulding of the pilasters extends around the reveal and across the doorhead, with the arch of the opening featuring an architrave and a key block that springs from this moulding.
There are five moulded stone steps leading up to the door, accompanied by a plain wrought iron guard rail and four wooden bollards in front of the house. All the listed buildings on the east side of Castle Street form a group.
