Description
Mellow House and The Malthouse is a house that has been extended and divided, dating from the late 16th century in the center, with a 17th-century section to the left and a 20th-century extension to the right. The building features a timber frame in the center, set on a whitewashed brick underbuild, with whitewashed rubble-stone to the left and brick to the right. The exposed frame on the center of the first floor has whitewashed render infill, and there is a tile-hung gable to the left. The roofs are plain tiled, hipped over the right-hand extension. The structure has a T-shaped plan with a cross wing to the left and a 20th-century extension to the right. It is two storeys high, except for the extensions, which are one storey. There is a 20th-century stack on the left-hand gable ridge, with additional stacks at the rear on both the right and left. The left-hand gable has one window on each floor, while the center range has two framed bays with ogee bracing and a moulded bressumer indicating a former jetty. The first floor has two leaded casement windows, and there is one window on the ground floor. The right gable features decorative ogee bracing and pierced 19th-century quatrefoil bargeboards, with the gable jettied out on braces. This gable has one window on each floor and two cambered head windows in the single-storey right-hand extension. There is a door to the left (leading to The Malthouse) set back in a porch, and another door on the right-hand return front. The building also has wings at the rear.
