Description

Medd House and Medd is a house that has been divided, originally built in the late 16th century, with extensions added in the 17th century and restorations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame set on a plinth of snecked sandstone rubble, with whitewashed roughcast infilling above and plain tiled roofs. The rear wing has whitewashed brick and tile hanging arranged in a fishscale pattern.

The building is two storeys high with large attics in the gables. The first floor jetties out at the right end, and there are large corbelled ridge stacks on both sides of the centre. To the left, there is a prominent through-eaves gable with moulded bargeboards, featuring two 4-light diamond-pane leaded casement windows on the first floor and one 4-light "cross" window below. The ground floor to the right of this gable has two 2-light under-eaves casements and one 3-light "cross" window.

There is a large gable to the left of centre, decorated with half-circle framing and six 2-light diamond-pane casements arranged in two rows of three on the first floor. Two gabled dormers are located to the right, with the left dormer having two single light windows above four small single light windows. The right gable has two rows of four lights and two 4-light "cross" windows below.

A ribbed door is situated on the ground floor of the large gable to the left of centre, framed by a shouldered surround and flanked by windows, with a flat hood supported by metal scroll brackets above. The left-hand return front features decorative framing and a small square bay on the ground floor. There is also a wing at right angles to the rear, which has plain casement windows.
