Description
Tankards is a 17th-century house located on the north side of The Street in Wonersh. The building is constructed of galleted sandstone rubble, with brick angle quoins that cladding a timber frame. It features some ironstone lumps on the right and a tile-hung gable on the first floor to the right. The roof is plain tiled, and the house has a double gable range facing the street, with a parallel wing extending across the rear.
The house stands two storeys high and has a distinctive crow-stepped star-shaped chimney stack from the 17th century on the right, along with another crow-stepped stack at the rear left. There are two gables, with a large brick panel featuring nesting box entries on the left gable. Each gable has one three-light leaded casement window on both floors, which are set under label mouldings. The right-hand gable also has one three-light window on each floor. A ribbed and part-glazed door, supported by a pentice hood on braces, is located to the left of centre at the junction of the two gables. There are 20th-century extensions at the rear.
