Description
No. 26 Middle Road is a house dating from the later 18th century or early 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick nogging and has weatherboard cladding above the ground floor, while the facade below is mostly rendered and painted white. The roof is covered with red pantiles. The building has a rectangular double-depth plan and a two-span roof, standing two storeys high with two symmetrical bays. There is a painted black plinth and a central doorway that has a board door topped with a small pitched canopy supported by slender scrolled brackets. The ground floor has 16-pane sashed windows with small wooden canopies, while the first floor features 12-pane sashes, with 8 panes in the lower leaf and 4 in the upper. A central chimney stack is positioned between the ridges. The return walls show exposed timber framing at the ground floor, with close-studding of light scantling and some braces; the left wall has a small window to the rear range, and the right wall has a single-light window at the first floor. The rear and interior of the building have not been inspected.
