Description
Nos. 53 and 55 High Street, formerly known as The Blue Bird Public House, are two shops with offices above. The building likely dates from the late 17th century and has been significantly altered over time. It may have originally been timber-framed but is now covered in roughcast, topped with a red tile roof. The structure has a rectangular two-unit plan, standing two storeys high with two bays and attics. The ground floor features modern shop fronts, while the first floor has sashed windows with 4 and 12 panes. The steeply-pitched roof includes two 6-pane sashed dormers flanking a chimney stack. There is a flat-roofed addition at the rear, which is not of special interest. The interior has also been altered. This building forms a visual group with The Dukes Head Public House to the right and is included for its group value.
