Description
Northbank House is an early 19th century shop with a dwelling above, later converted into flats. It’s situated on the south side of Bridge Street, Leatherhead. The building is rectangular with a narrow front, and is constructed of white-painted stucco with a slate roof.
The building is three storeys and three bays wide, exhibiting a symmetrical design. It features a plinth, a cornice above the ground floor, and a moulded string course at the second floor level. The ground floor shop front has fluted Doric semi-columns framing a central doorway with glazed double doors, margin panes, a deep two-pane overlight, and plate glass windows on either side. The entablature is now a modern painted fascia under a cornice. Above the shop front are sash windows: twelve panes at the first floor and nine panes at the second floor, all with plain reveals and raised sills. A hipped roof with projecting eaves completes the exterior.
Attached to the rear, linked by a short, pitched-roof section, is a further block of similar proportions. The south facade of this block has twelve-pane sashed windows at the first floor, and tall nine-pane sashes at the second floor. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
