Description

This is an early 19th-century house, now used as an office, located on Bridge Street in Leatherhead. It has a symmetrical, rectangular design with a double-depth plan and a basement, extending over three storeys and three bays. The front facade is constructed of stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the side and rear walls are flint with brick dressings. The roof is covered with modern tiles.

The ground floor, partially obscured by unsympathetic boarding, features round-headed arched recesses containing openings. A central doorway, raised four steps, is framed by a fluted wooden surround and has a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. The ground floor is flanked by 12-pane sash windows, each with a gauged brick head; a ventilator has been inserted into each window, and large signboards with boxed lights above are positioned over the doorway and windows. The upper floors have blind windows in the central bay and 12- and 9-pane sash windows in the outer bays, all with gauged brick heads. Projecting eaves and gable chimneys top the building.

The left return wall is of flint, and the extruded brick chimney stack is prominent. The rear elevation features a two-storey flint wall with brick quoins and dressings. The ground floor level has been reduced to a basement due to the topography, with an area around it and a central bridge protected by elegant wrought-iron railings incorporating Greek-key bands. Segmental-headed sash windows are present at the lower level, a doorway is situated beneath a 16-pane fixed window in the centre of the upper level, and 16-pane sash windows are in the outer bays. A dormer window sits above the centre. The interior has not been inspected.
