Description

Nos. 1, 1A, and 1B on North Street is a shop that has been converted into an office. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and has undergone alterations. The building features roughcast render painted white and a slate roof, with a double-depth plan and a long rear extension. It has two low storeys and consists of two bays plus one additional bay, which has a roof with a lower pitch and appears to be of a different construction.

The most notable feature is the ground floor shop front, which is situated beneath a prominent canopy. This shop front includes a tripartite shop window and a doorway to the right, framed by fluted Tuscan semi-columns on panelled plinths. The wide central window and the narrower side windows are topped with semi-elliptical fanlights that have radiating leaded glazing, while the doorway features a rectangular panel above. Each column is adorned with a prominent ornamental cast-iron bracket that supports the canopy, which is decorated with ornamental cresting above a modern fascia board. On the first floor, there are 4-pane sashed windows equipped with blind-boxes. A chimney stack is located on the slope of the roof at the left end. The interior has been altered.
