Description
Nos. 3, 4, and 4A on Petticoat Lane are two shops that have been converted into offices. They have origins dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The front is painted brick, while the sides and rear are made of red brick. No. 3 features a green pantile roof, while No. 4 and 4A have slate roofs. The buildings have brick coped gables and two gable stacks along with a single ridge stack.
The exterior consists of three storeys plus attics, with an eight-bay front that has a moulded and modillion eaves cornice. There are two 19th-century shop fronts with pilasters, brackets, and cast-iron glazing bars on No. 4. The windows on No. 4 include glazing bar sashes, while No. 3 has divided lights. On the first floor, there are two sashes to the left, a canted 19th-century flat-roofed oriel, a late 19th-century cross casement, a small fixed light, and four glazing bar sashes. The top floor features eight sash windows, all of which have flat brick wedge arches with keystones. In the roof, No. 3 has two gabled dormers with sashes. The gable end, constructed in English bond, displays a datestone with a partially legible date of "166-". The interior has not been inspected.
