Description
53 and 54 Market Place is a pair of houses that have been converted into a single unit, originally built in the early 18th century. The buildings were raised and altered in the early 19th century, with further changes made in the late 19th century and 20th century. They are constructed of colourwashed brick and render, topped with slate roofs, one of which features a stone-coped gable.
The exterior presents a three-storey, three-bay front with a modern shop front added in the 20th century. On the left side, there are two plain sash windows on each floor. To the right, there is a 19th-century canted oriel window with plain sashes and a flat lead roof, along with a plain sash window above it. A gabled dormer is visible on No. 54. The side wall of No. 53 reveals the tumbled gable of an earlier, lower building.
The interior has not been inspected. This building has significant group value with No. 52 Market Place and other structures in the Market Place, including the Parish Church.
